I scheduled appointment for transmission and coolant fluid flush. The cost is a little higher than I expected but that’s ok because i probably need to do it only once for the car. However,I was puzzled that I was offered to replace timing belt and water pump for another $1600. The model of my car is equipped with timing chain which is supposed to last the life of the engine. I am glad that I declined the service. Nick, Thank you for responding. I checked my owners manual did not see timing belt nor timing chain. I asked chatGPT to help, here is the response: The 2014 Acura RDX (with the 3.5L V6 engine) uses a timing chain, not a timing belt. That means it’s designed to last the life of the engine and normally does not require regular replacement like a timing belt would. Maintenance is usually limited to keeping up with oil changes, since good lubrication helps the chain and tensioners last longer. Some dealership-maintenance schedules or third-party sites list items like “replace timing belt” at ~105,000 mi / 7 years etc., but that appears to be a copy-and-paste error from models that do have timing belts, or outdated info
Hi Mr. Wu, This is Nick who helped you with your car. Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us, this feedback helps us focus on how to improve for our customers. One of our goals is to make sure you are part of the process in deciding how to prioritize the maintenance of your car rather than being "upsold" services that may not make sense for your long term plans. This is a fine line and I apologize for not communicating clearly and with a sense of urgency with regards to your timing belt! Your car's belt was due to be replaced in 2024 based on age and a timing belt failure on your car is catastrophic (interference engine) and usually requires an engine replacement. Even if we've lost your trust due to communication. While the newer Acura RDXs have a timing chain, the 2014 RDX with a 3.5 liter engine does indeed have a timing belt.
